UIUC Music Building
The School of Music Building contains the offices for faculty in musicology, composition-theory, strings, brass, woodwinds, music education, and the administrative staff. The majority of classroom teaching takes place in this building and practice rooms are located throughout the structure. A 250-seat auditorium functions as both a large lecture room and a concert hall.

The Control Room and Recording Studio provides for the nearly 400 concerts presented each year by students and faculty of the School.

Smith Music Building
Smith Memorial Hall contains studios for the accompanying, piano, piano pedagogy, keyboard, voice, percussion, organ, harpsichord, and jazz faculties. A second Yamaha digital piano lab, ensemble rehearsal facilities, and numerous practice rooms equipped with pianos (including 21 Steinway grand pianos purchased in the Fall of 1998) and numerous pipe organs, allow for a variety of instructional activities. A 900-seat recital hall, with mahogany woodwork throughout, provides an acoustically fine auditorium for student and faculty concerts, ensemble performances, and organ recitals on the three-manual Casavant concert organ. Smith Memorial Room, with its beautiful crystal chandeliers and exquisite decor, is a drawing-room-sized hall reminiscent of European palaces, an ideal location for chamber music recitals and small classes.
Smith Memorial Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Krannert Center for the Performing Arts [top]
KCPA
The School of Music frequently uses the facilities of the Krannert Center for performances, rehearsals and classes. The choral, opera, and orchestra faculty offices and studios are also located in the KCPA. The Center was the gift of industrialist Herman Krannert and his wife, Ellnora. It is often considered to be one of the finest performing facilities in the country. It has been acclaimed for its architectural splendor, fine acoustics, and elegant interior. A two-square-block theatre complex, it covers nearly ten acres and consists of four indoor theatres, an outdoor amphitheater, and ensemble rehearsal rooms.
The Foellinger Great Hall, seating nearly 2,100, can host orchestras of more than 120 players. Facilities allow for recordings by such orchestras as the Chicago Symphony. Internationally famous concert artists and ensembles appear frequently in the Great Hall, which serves as the concert venue for the School's eleven choral ensembles, nine bands, two orchestras, contemporary music ensembles, four jazz bands, and most faculty recitals.
KCPA Control Room
Colwell Playhouse, accommodating an audience of nearly 700, is used by the School of Music primaily for jazz ensembles, smaller performance organizations, and soloists.
Planned and equipped especially for music productions, the Tryon Festival Theatre seats just under 1,000 and is the home of the Illinois Opera Theatre, the performance company of the School of Music opera division. A wide and deep stage allows for special scenic effects, and space behind and to the sides leaves plenty of room for quick scenery changes.
The Studio Theatre is designed for intimate, experimental productions with an audience capacity of up to 200, and is suitable for opera scenes or small-scale contemporary music concerts. The main lobby connecting the entrances to all four halls is designed for easy access for nearly 4,000 patrons and also serves as an exhibit area and reception facility. Visit Krannert's site here:
